 I am deeply honored to introduce this year’s first issue of the African Journal of Business and Economic Research (AJBER). The current issue features ten articles covering various African countries, and one book review. Topics covered addressed pertinent issues in Africa such as fiscal and monetary policy, health expenditure, economic growth, stock markets, entrepreneurship and marketing. While I am delighted to present this issue, it comes at a very challenging time, not only for Africa, but the world as a whole. The coronavirus also known as COVID-19 poses significant threat to the functioning of the global economy. The effects of the shutdowns implemented by various countries in an endeavor to limit the spread of the virus will be severely felt, especially by African economies. It is with great pleasure that I introduce this year’s first issue of African Journal of Business and Economic Research (AJBER). This issue features nine papers, covering three African countries; South Africa, Nigeria, and Ghana, while one take a multi-country approach. For South Africa, topics covered addresses the issues relating to fiscal policy and economic growth, money and happiness, employee engagement and its relationship to productivity in the sugar industry, and the inadequate disclosure of human capital in corporate annual reports. For Nigeria, the papers looked at the challenges in beverage labour market, enhancing the quality of market capitalization, and assessing the correlation between occupational stress and several.
