The 7th Covenant University Conference on E-Business and E-Government in Nigeria 2020 (CUCEEN2020) held from May 26 – 28, 2020. CUCEEN2020 was dubbed “Innovation and Sustainable Development in the Information Age.” It was a congregation of scholars, industry professionals and government representatives where critical issues of innovation and digital government were interrogated with a view to evolving an all-encompassing and integrative strategy for sustainable development particularly, in the information age. This special issue of the African Renaissance includes selected papers presented at the conference by scholars from different disciplines and institutions with a wide range of issues relating to the conference theme using diverse methodology.  Continued scientific research activities targeted at giving policy directions and solutions to Africa's myriad challenges are critical to the continent's progress and development. These challenges have stymied Africa's socio-economic and political development. Africa, unlike other continents, has lagged in terms of progress and development, owing to issues such as corruption, conflict, election fraud, ethnic cleavages or identity, race and racism, xenophobic hostility, and resource scarcity, among others. While other continents appear to have discovered solutions to these problems, Africa continues to be tormented by them. Africa's burgeoning population and the inability to address its growing problems have branded the continent as the world's most troubled and underdeveloped continent. Inequality and rising income differences between African states and citizens have matched this, making some African states more desirable as migratory destinations. Migration within and across Africa is a known factor of hatred, insecurity, and violence among Africans in Africa. Apart from migration tensions, the emergence of Covid-19 has broken Africa's efforts to build its image and capabilities in the global system. The Covid-19 new normal has not only slowed down growth and development in Africa it has also impoverished lives and livelihoods.  In the age of rapid globalization, Africa is moving but struggles with teething challenges that account for its abysmal level of development. Despite these challenges, African scholars and researchers through research have continued to identify and proffer measures in terms of policy directions to African governments to address inherent African problems. These measures have significantly contributed to the transformation that necessitates vigorous efforts in research and policy thinking in Africa, especially, among African scholars.  The experiences of African states from pre-colonialism, colonial era through independence and the post-modern period have continue to evolve. As the continent continues to grapple with old challenges, new ones are emerging and these combine to create complex situations. In the face of this development, African scholars, researchers, policymakers and practitioners remain undaunted in understanding the situations and proffering solutions to the challenges. Since inception, African Renaissance has demonstrated unwavering partnership towards the transformation of Africa and the promotion of its cause through the provision of a formidable platform for publishing research from these groups.  The world and Africa in particular are still laden with developmental challenges and issues which have raised serious concern about the survival of Africa, especially in this era of the COVID-19 pandemic. Africa, despite these challenges, has a potential for significant progress–a transformation that necessitates vigorous efforts in research and policy thinking. These efforts have made many researchers, governments, and international organizations discover, debate, and proposed targets and goals that can sustainably address the challenges ravaging the continent. These highlights the importance of collaborative global attempts and interventions through developmental initiatives, specifically designed to address developmental global issues, including that of Africa.    These developmental issues such as poverty, education, health, gender equality, election, climate, partnership, environmental justice, security, and peace among others have over the years gained............

The world is in transition, sub-national and national governments, sub-regional and regional organizations continue to position and re-position to maximize the changes and dynamics of events that shape global affairs. Attempts have been made to articulate these phenomena in ways that they can be identify, so that the measures at either curbing or achieving them can be evolved both in isolation and partnership at the national, regional and global levels respectively. These underscore the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) escalated to the Sustainable Developments Goals (SDGs) and the insights from the World Economic Forum (WEF) with regard to the revolution in information communications technologies. The issues articulated in these development initiatives have impacted and will continue to impact the African states and the people differently.  It is very much in order to set-out my editorial commentary of this African Renaissance publication Volume 17, Number 2, June 2020, by wishing all and sundry well in this COVID-19 pandemic times. True, coronavirus may have come to stay- as is being touted by political leaders globally – but its probable hardship to human conditions could not weigh us down not to see that this edition of the African Renaissance go public. Besides, this coronavirus epoch also present some measure of scholarly boost as an element of intellectual propensity which will greatly help to further the aims and objectives of the African Renaissance journal. What do I mean? The precarious developmental level Africa found herself before the outbreak of the virus called for serious and plentiful scholarly engagements across all fields of study to rebirth the continent in its development strides. How much more then under a COVID-19 pandemic era that has assumed the euphemism for radical social life style ............

African Renaissance is a journal that has a history of high-quality contribution to knowledge on social and political dynamics of Africa. The African continent has a chequered social, economic and political history that is inundated with developmental challenges. The way out this quagmire requires a multi-faceted approach, one of which is the production of policy-relevant, actionable research. This is the focus of the African Renaissance as a journal, which has been kept intact since inception. Since its debut, successive Issues of the journal has been professionally published and this is attested to by the status of the journal as a premium collection of articles on African affairs. Beyond the fact that articles published in the African Renaissance have a well-balanced contribution of researchers across different disciplines in the social sciences and humanities, it encourages collaboration between the research and policy communities for valid contributions to the quest for Africa............
