African Journal of Theatre, Music and Dance Studies

Vol. 1 Combined Nos. 1 & 2, (December, 2026)

 
The African Journal of Theatre, Music and Dance Studies, a peer-reviewed academic publication designed to advance scholarship on performing arts across Africa and its diaspora, is calling for papers for its Vol.1 Combined Nos. 1 & 2 (December, 2026). The journal provides a dedicated platform for critical inquiry into indigenous and contemporary theatrical expressions, musical genres and their performances, and choreographic forms.
 
The journal invites high-quality theoretical, empirical, and practice-led research manuscripts focusing on, but not limited to, the following areas:
 
•Theatre & Drama: Indigenous performance modes, ritual enactments, contemporary African playwriting, postcolonial theater, political drama, and Community Theater.
•Music Studies: Traditional and folkloric African music, popular music evolution and practice, protest music, choral traditions, ethnomusicology, and the digital economy of African sound production.
•Dance & Movement Arts: Traditional ceremonial dances, contemporary African choreography, bodily expression, identity politics in movement, and dance therapy.
•Interdisciplinary & Diaspora Perspectives: Fusion performance arts, carnivals and masquerades, screen-based performing arts, gender dynamics in the arts, and the globalization of African creative expressions.
