To name a spatial problem is already to begin reshaping it. Research on the built environment does not stand apart from the cities it studies. It intervenes in the production of policy, the formation of design decisions, and the professional practices through which space is continuously made and remade. Across African contexts marked by rapid urbanization, diverse governance conditions, unequal infrastructure, and layered spatial histories, the question is not simply whether research produces knowledge, but whether it generates forms of understanding that practitioners and institutions can meaningfully work with.
