It is with great pleasure that I introduce this year’s first issue of African Journal of Business and Economic Research (AJBER). This issue features nine papers, covering three African countries; South Africa, Nigeria, and Ghana, while one take a multi-country approach. For South Africa, topics covered addresses the issues relating to fiscal policy and economic growth, money and happiness, employee engagement and its relationship to productivity in the sugar industry, and the inadequate disclosure of human capital in corporate annual reports. For Nigeria, the papers looked at the challenges in beverage labour market, enhancing the quality of market capitalization, and assessing the correlation between occupational stress and several. From Ghana, the paper analyses the problem of business tax evasion. Finally, yet importantly, the issues contains research on the welfare gains from economic integration in the Tripartite Free Trade Area. While the majority of these studies are country specific, the focus of the studies and findings are applicable to other African countries. 2019 is an exciting year for us at AJBER as we become a quarterly journal. This is in response to the increasing volume of quality articles from academics, business practitioners, and policy makers across the wider business and economics field in Africa. We, at AJBER, remain commented to advancing vibrant, high quality and current research, which inform policies and practices, both at a micro and macro level. I therefore encourage you to submit your quality research to our journal as we strive to improve understanding of how economic and business decisions shape the lives of Africans, as well as find solutions to problems facing our continent. Let me take this opportunity to once again to thank the independent reviewers for their time and expertise, as well as the editorial team of this journal for their on-going commitment to the standards of which the journal aspires.
