I am delighted to present this year’s last issue of African Journal of Business and Economic Research (AJBER). This issue features ten papers, covering topics on government debt, thresholds and economic growth in ECOWAS as well as SADC; military expenditure as a driver of industrialisation and economic growth on the African continent; innovation spill-overs and productivity in South Africa; relevance of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs) to stockbrokers in Nigeria; cross-culture adjustment and success in Ghana; customer loyalty for a sustainable leafy market sector; developing powerful brands with positive equity to sustain the traditional medicine industry; what informs consumers’ choice of mobile communication service providers; implementation of e-commerce by SMEs in the tourism sector; as well as the social and economic importance of the festival Gariep Arts in Kimberley, South Africa. While some of these studies are country and regional specific, the focus of the studies and findings are applicable to other African countries and regions.
2018 has been a great year for our journal as we received Scopus accreditation and are in the process of being indexed. Let me take this opportunity to offer my sincere gratitude to the past editors of this journal, Prof. John Kuada (2006-2009), Prof. John Okpara (2010-2011), and Prof. Nnamdi O. Madichie (2012-2017), as well as the journal’s editorial board, for building a solid foundation for AJBER. It is through your dedication to this journal that we are seeing and enjoying the fruits. A special thank you also goes to our dedicated reviewers for your time and expertise. I would also like to thank the editorial and administrative team for your ongoing commitment to the standards of which AJBER aspires. I call upon all of you to continue supporting the journal and help us take it to greater heights.
As we conclude another successful year, let me take this opportunity to announce that, from 2019, AJBER will become a quarterly journal. This is in response to the increasing volume of quality articles from academics, business practitioners, and policy makers across the wider business and economics field in Africa. As part of improving the quality of the work we publish, please note that all articles submitted to the journal will go through Turn-it-in plagiarism check from January 2019. We remain committed to publishing high quality and up-to-date research papers that advance vibrant and engaging work, which inform policies and practices, as well as improve understanding of how economic and business decisions shape the lives of Africans. As part of our future strategy, we will be offering publication space to special and supplemental issues associated with conferences and special regional or country specific topics.
Once again thank you for trusting us in disseminating your research and we look forward to a productive year ahead.
