Integrating Philosophy, Religion, and Theology into SDG Progress in Africa: Faith, Critical Thinking, and Strategic Action in Dialogue
Author :
By Ikechukwu Anthony Kanu, Timothy Dokpesi Adidi, Michael Paul Pilani, Michael Sunday Sasa and Peter Bakwaph (eds.)
This volume explores how Africa’s philosophical traditions, religious heritage, and theological insights can contribute to progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. Drawing on discussions from the 2026 Veritas University Abuja Conference, its interdisciplinary contributions connect ideas and values with urgent development challenges, including poverty, inequality, environmental sustainability, governance, education, and social cohesion. The contributors invite readers to see development as more than a technical or policy challenge: it is a human endeavour grounded in dignity, justice, solidarity, and care for the environment. They show how philosophical inquiry can question assumptions and imagine new possibilities, while faith traditions can inspire ethical reflection and collective action. Case studies and theoretical frameworks reveal practical ways that faith-based organisations and culturally grounded approaches can shape community initiatives and policy. Bringing scholars, practitioners, religious leaders, and policymakers into conversation, this book offers fresh perspectives on linking knowledge with practice and belief with action. It is a resource for all seeking inclusive, meaningful, and sustainable futures for Africa.
